The longer answer. If you want help right inside Gmail, Gemini in Gmail is the easiest: it summarizes, drafts, labels and finds things without leaving your inbox, from $4.99 a month on Google AI Plus31. If you want an agent that can also send and reply for you, Claude is the safest start, because it asks before every send by default4. If you want work to kick off when an email lands, ChatGPT Work can trigger on new Gmail messages7. For inbox chores across many web tools, Grok Bot8.

Keep your inbox safe
- Emails can contain hidden instructions meant to trick an agent. OpenAI gives exactly that example (a malicious message asking the agent to fetch a password-reset code from Gmail)9.
- Keep "ask before sending" on. Claude has it on by default4.
- Don't give vague orders like "check my email and handle everything", which OpenAI also advises against9.
- Connecting Gmail to the Gemini app needs Keep Activity on, which means your activity can be used to improve Google's services10.
