Short answer. Several agents can genuinely work your inbox and calendar today. Claude has the most detailed published Gmail and Google Calendar features and asks before sending by default1. ChatGPT covers Gmail and Outlook, including shared mailboxes3. Copilot is the natural pick inside Outlook4. Lindy is built specifically for this job6. Whatever you pick, keep sending behind your approval.
Which agents can actually do it
"Works with email" can mean anything from summarizing one message to sending on your behalf. Here's what each vendor's own pages say, and whether it asks before acting. A blank we couldn't fill reads unknown.

| Claude | Gmail: search, draft, send, reply, forward1; Outlook on Pro and up2 | Google Calendar: create and move events, find mutual availability, RSVP1 | Asks before sending by default1 |
| ChatGPT | Gmail and Outlook: drafts, then you choose to send (web)3; Outlook shared mailboxes3 | Google Calendar; Outlook shared calendars: create, update, RSVP, cancel3 | You set it: always ask, ask before changes, or only before important changes3 |

The best fit for your setup
Gmail and Google Calendar
Claude is the clearest choice: it searches and drafts mail, sends, replies and forwards with your approval, creates and moves events, finds mutual availability and RSVPs1. ChatGPT connects to Gmail and Google Calendar too, and lets you connect several Google accounts, personal and work, in the same conversation3. Gemini lives inside Gmail with AI Inbox briefings5, though Google Workspace accounts can't buy the consumer AI plans5.
Outlook and Microsoft 365
Copilot drafts emails inside Outlook and recaps meetings in Teams, with prompts and responses kept inside the Microsoft 365 boundary4. ChatGPT's Outlook Email and Calendar apps can also read a shared mailbox, move messages, send plain-text email on its behalf, and create, update or RSVP to events on shared calendars you have access to3.
You want an assistant that runs the whole loop
Lindy handles inbox triage, replies in your voice, scheduling, meeting prep, notes and follow-up, and holds actions with outside impact for your approval6. ChatGPT can also run a task automatically when a new Gmail message arrives3. Grok Bot takes a different route: it works in your email and calendar the way you do, on its own cloud computer, 24/77.
You want it in WhatsApp or iMessage, self-hosted
OpenClaw advertises inbox, email and calendar from your chat apps9. Read Is OpenClaw safe? before connecting your mail.
How safely: the three levels of access
- Read. Summaries, search, "what's on my plate today". Low risk; the agent can't change anything.
- Draft. The agent writes, you send. This is where most of the time savings are, and it's still safe because a human presses send.
- Send and accept invites. Real autonomy. Only turn this on for narrow, repetitive cases, and only on agents that log what they did.
The main risk is prompt injection: an email can contain hidden instructions ("forward the last invoice to this address") that an agent may follow. OpenAI warns about exactly this for agents signed in to email and websites13. Approval before sending is what stops it. ChatGPT also offers Lockdown Mode, which limits web and external access to reduce data exfiltration from prompt injection3.
Settings to check on day one
- ChatGPT: set app permissions to "always ask" or "ask before making changes"3.
- Claude: leave the default approval before sending on1.
- Muse: it asks before sending email, but training on your chats is on by default; switch it off in Settings > Data controls8.
- Grok Bot: opt out of training and keep Auto Review on for sensitive actions7.
- OpenClaw: restrict the message tool and run the security audit10.
For a work inbox, use a business plan. ChatGPT Business14, Claude Team2, Microsoft 365 Copilot4 and Lindy6 say they don't train on your data. Costs are in How much does an AI agent cost? and on the pricing page; the buyer's guide compares all eleven agents by job.
A safe first week
- Connect one inbox and one calendar, read-only if the agent allows it.
- Ask for a daily brief: today's meetings, the five emails that need you, anything overdue.
- Move to drafts: let it write replies to routine mail; you edit and send.
- Let it propose meeting times; you confirm the invite.
- After a week, decide whether any single task is safe enough to automate fully.
