ChatGPT vs Claude for business (2026)

ChatGPT Business and Claude Team cost the same. Here's what's different: email and calendar, agents, admin controls, certifications and usage limits.

Short answer. On price they're identical: $20 per seat per month on annual billing, $25 monthly, $100–125 for power users12. Pick ChatGPT Business if you want Office add-ins, Outlook support and an always-on agent (dots). Pick Claude Team if your team lives in Gmail and Google Calendar and you want the published approve-before-send default and the broader certification list.

Side by side

Both plans are self-serve workspaces with admin controls and no model training on your data by default. Here's where they differ, fact by fact, from each company's own pages.

Email and calendar: who does more?

Claude publishes the clearest feature list for Google Workspace: it can search and draft mail, send, reply and forward (asking first by default), create and move events, find a time that works for everyone and RSVP4. If most of your team's day is Gmail and Google Calendar, that's the deciding factor.

ChatGPT covers both Google and Microsoft. With Gmail or Outlook connected, it drafts an email and you choose to send it, on the web for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise3. The Outlook apps can work with shared mailboxes and shared calendars you have access to3, and you can connect several Google accounts at once3. For a Microsoft-heavy business, ChatGPT is the stronger fit of the two. More in AI agents for email and calendar.

Agents: getting work done, not just answers

ChatGPT Work is OpenAI's agent for longer tasks: it researches, works across connected apps and files, and creates documents, spreadsheets, presentations, reports and Sites, asking you to approve important actions3. It's included in Standard seats along with Codex1. Dots go further: always-on agents with their own cloud computer that keep working between conversations, rolling out to eligible Business Premium users3.

Claude Team includes Cowork and Claude Code2. One limit matters for businesses: Claude's computer use, which lets Cowork drive your desktop when there's no connector, is a beta for Pro and Max and isn't available on Team or Enterprise6.

Security and admin

Both keep business data out of training: OpenAI says it won't train on a Business workspace's data1; Anthropic doesn't train on Team or Enterprise data by default5. ChatGPT Business is SOC 2 Type 2 with SAML SSO7. Anthropic lists SOC 2 Type I and II, ISO 27001:2022 and ISO/IEC 42001:2023 for its commercial products8, and Claude Team adds SSO, domain capture and role-based permissions2.

For prompt injection, the risk that an agent follows instructions hidden in an email or web page10, ChatGPT offers Lockdown Mode, which restricts browsing and other network features; workspace admins can set it for members3. We didn't find an equivalent switch documented for Claude Team: unknown.

Usage limits and surprise costs

Both bill per seat with usage caps. ChatGPT Business lets you buy workspace credits for usage beyond the included limits1. Claude Team Standard seats get 1.25x the Pro plan's per-session allowance with a weekly cap, and you can enable usage credits to keep working past it2. Limits are per person, not pooled2. A practical difference: Claude Team includes monthly API credits2, while ChatGPT Business doesn't include API usage1.

Which should you buy?

  • Choose ChatGPT Business if you use Outlook or Microsoft Office, want an agent that builds finished files and Sites, or want dots.
  • Choose Claude Team if you're on Google Workspace, want approve-before-send as the documented default, or need ISO 27001 on paper.
  • Not sure? Both need only two seats12. Run a month of each on monthly billing ($50 per plan for two people) and keep the one your team actually opens.
